Registered Membership
Registered membership is available to those who meet established eligibility requirements for entry-to-practice into the profession of respiratory therapy in Canada. CSRT registered members will be entitled to the RRT designation in British Columbia, Yukon, Nunavut and Northwest Territories, and to all CSRT membership benefits. The RRT credential through the CSRT remains valid as long as the individual maintains their registered membership with the Society.
To be eligible for Registered Membership, candidates must fulfill one of the following criteria:
- RRTs who are members of a Canadian Regulatory Body
For RTs practicing in a regulated province, simply join online (link below). You must include your registry number from your provincial regulatory body. - RTs from non-regulated provinces
For RTs practicing in a non-regulated province (British Columbia and the Territories), the following documents are required and must be uploaded during the membership application process: - Proof of graduation from an Accreditation Canada (or CoARTE prior to September 1, 2019) approved respiratory therapy program
- Proof of successful completion of the exam as provided through the Health Professionals Testing Canada (HPTC) (previously the Canadian Board for Respiratory Care - CBRC).
- Individuals holding the RRT designation from the National Board of Respiratory Care (NBRC) in the United States who wishes to become a registered member of the CSRT may gain eligibility through the following process joining the CSRT as an Associate member, providing the CSRT with verification of your NBRC-RRT credential, and then successfully completing the CSRT’s National RT Certification Exam (administered by Health Professionals Testing Canada).
Associate Membership
CSRT associate membership is available to all individuals who wish to join but who do not meet the eligibility criteria for registered membership. Associate members will be entitled to to all CSRT membership benefits other than the RRT credential and access to CSRT professional liability insurance.
- Canadian and International health professionals who are not respiratory therapists, and internationally trained respiratory therapists are welcome to join the CSRT as an associate member*.
- ARCPP Philippines Applicants: Through a CSRT-ARCPP partnership, ARCPP members may enter a promo code at check-out to receive discounted CSRT membership. If you have questions regarding the promo code, please email our membership team before continuing.
*Please note that membership to the CSRT alone does not qualify an individual to work as a Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) in Canada and there are no provisions for gaining the CSRT’s Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) credential from outside Canada.
Student Membership
It is currently not possible to join as a Student Member.
If you have just written the HPTC RT exam, you are no longer eligible for Student Membership, please join as an Associate Member. You can purchase professional liability insurance in the Store once you have joined, if you need it.
If you would like to join as a Student Member, please come back to this page after August 30th.
CSRT student membership is available to individuals currently enrolled in a respiratory therapy education program anywhere in Canada, or an Accreditation Canada accredited respiratory therapy education program outside of Canada. CSRT student members will have access to all CSRT member benefits, with the exception of professional credentials.
